Most shotcups like sabots are made to withstand the heat/pressure of powder ignition. At least traditions reads modern muzzleloader, I just saw a picture of everyone at CVA looking over their shoulder ,,it'll be all right Mr CVA! Modern barrels run on smokeless powder. And they don't blow up. A muzzleloader with a modern barrel can absolutely run on smokeless powder. I've been doing it for more than a decade. Dozens of dead deer. Using smokeless powder is the only reason to build a muzzleloader using a modern barrel.

The majority of 45cal SML sabot loads with a 200gr wont even break 34kpsi. A max load of N120 is right around 34kpsi with a 200gr SST. Its way under that with 4198 or Re7. They all leaked and a 300 grain Pittman pushed by 72 grains of H4198 disintegrated my primer. I changed those three guns to Hankins ignitions and all the ones I built since are Hankins.1) Not all are bores are off center. 2) The QLA IS cut in the center: When an uncentered bore doesn't line up there is a bigger space on one side of the bullet as it enters the QLA. Therefore more gas passes the bullet on that side of the barrel kicking the bullet sideways. Sabots pictures really show how that happens.

Enough light rust showing in the muzzle that i was able to get the seller to come down from $200, to $125. Breech and barrel are very clean so i think it may be worth saving. Ive been looking for a Thunder Bolt in .45 but no luck. I think they offered them with laminate stocks and they were good lookers.
